TIP VAN ROOS

HOOVERPHONIC – Fake is the New Dope (lp/cd) 29,95/19,95

De Belgische band Hooverphonic bestaat al even, namelijk sinds 1995, maar na het vertrek van zangeres Geike Arnaert in 2008 was ik zelf eerlijk gezegd een beetje afgehaakt. In 2020 keerde Geike terug en het album uit 2021 voelde als een warm bad.
Met Fake Is the New Dope laat de band horen dat ze elkaar weer echt hebben gevonden. Er wordt weer meer geëxperimenteerd en het is allemaal wat spannender en meer divers. Met invloeden uit de jaren 90 zonder dat het gedateerd klinkt en hier en daar wat donker zonder dat het zwaar wordt. Naast Geike neemt ook bassist Alex Callier weer enkele vocalen voor zijn rekening, wat heel prettig combineert.
In 2024 is Hooverphonic nog altijd relevant en een dikke tip!
