SISTER ROSETTA THARPE – Live in France: The 1966 Concert in Limoges (cd) 20,95

Sister Rosetta Tharpe (1915-1973) wordt toch vooral gezien als gospelzangeres, maar eigenlijk kenmerkt haar muziek zich als een cross-over van diverse stijlen; gospel, jazz, blues. Vanaf eind jaren 50 treedt Sister Rosetta vaak op in Europa en dan met name in Frankrijk. Zo trad ze in 1966 op in Limoges, beroemd vanwege zijn porselein, alleen met haar elektrische gitaar en natuurlijk die expressieve powerstem.
Het concert werd destijds door de Franse radio opgenomen en de tapes van het optreden werden in 2017 teruggevonden en verschijnen nu voor het eerst op CD. In 65 minuten worden er 21 nummers gespeeld en het klinkt echt goed, zeker voor een opname uit 1966.
Het is eigenlijk net alsof je er zelf bij bent.
